Koen van der Gaast werkte drie jaar als docent bij het Instituut voor Interdisciplinaire Studies bij de bacheloropleiding Future Planet Studies. Daar doceerde hij, behalve academische vaardigheden, ook diverse interdisciplinaire vakken op het grensvlak tussen de sociale wetenschappen en milieuwetenschappen. Hij is momenteel als promovendus verbonden aan de WUR (Wageningen University & Research), en Aeres Hogeschool Almere.
